ASSA ABLOY SL500 Maintenance & Safety Check Guide

Regular Safety Checks

To help you fulfil national/international requirements and to avoid malfunction and risk of injuries, please use the following daily checklist.

WARNING: Do not use the door if repair or adjustment is necessary. Disconnect supply when cleaning or other maintenance is to be carried out.

Daily Visual Inspection

  • Activate your operator and visually check fastening and for any damage to operator and cover.
  • Inspect cables for wear or damage.
  • Check operator mode selector(s).
  • Ensure door and glass stability.
  • Inspect condition of door seals and weather stripping.
  • Check condition of glazing rubbers.
  • Verify finger protection is intact.
  • Confirm proper operation: door should close slowly and smoothly.
  • Ensure no ventilation or objects are obstructing the door.

Functional Testing

Lock Check: Set the programme selector to OFF and check that the operator and electromechanical lock (if fitted) work together. Ensure the lock securely holds the door.
Manual Activation: Activate manual activation units (if any) and walk towards the door. The door must open appropriately while you pass the entrance/exit.
Automatic Activation: Perform the same test with automatic activation units (sensors).
Safety Sensors: Check safety sensors to ensure they prevent the door from closing when an object is detected.

Escape & Fire Safety

  • Escape Doors (Break-out System): If equipped, set selector to AUTO mode. Push the door manually in escape direction to ensure it opens freely. Ensure escape route is clear. Restore to normal mode after test.
  • Fire Doors: If equipped with automatic opening system, shut off power. The door should open and remain open. Restore power and the door should close.

Note: By law, these tests must be performed regularly by trained personnel.

Cleaning Care Instructions

The best way to remove dust and dirt from the Besam SL500, SL500 T, and SL500 SL is to use water and a soft cloth or sponge. A gentle detergent may be used.

Maintenance Schedule

  • Cleaning Frequency: Surfaces should be cleaned once every four months to maintain enamel quality. Document all cleaning activities.
  • Weekly: Brushes and weather stripping must be vacuum-cleaned to avoid damage to profiles.

⚠️ Important Cleaning Prohibitions

  • No Alkalis: Do not expose windows, doors, or profiles to alkalis. Aluminium and glass are sensitive to them.
  • No High Pressure: Do not clean with high-pressure water. It may damage the operator, selector, sensors, and allow water into profiles.
  • No Polishing Detergents: Avoid polishing agents.
  • No Abrasives: Do not scrub with materials like Scotch-brite to prevent mechanical damage.
