DORMA ES 200 EASYplus Operating Manual: Key Functions, Settings & Maintenance Explained

The DORMA ES 200 EASYplus is a sliding door operator designed for opening and closing doors in passenger traffic areas. If you operate, service or troubleshoot a door system equipped with this drive, the official operating manual (WN 058726 45532, 2022-08) contains the answers — but they are scattered across declarations, safety notes and operating chapters. This article condenses the essentials: technical data, the five program switch functions, the built-in safety systems, everyday operating procedures, wear parts and first-line troubleshooting.

1. Intended Use — What the ES 200 EASYplus Is (and Is Not) For

  • Exclusively for opening and closing doors for passenger traffic.
  • Only for use in dry rooms (protection class IP 20).
  • Not approved for escape and emergency routes.
  • Glass door panels must be made of safety glass; work on electrical equipment may only be carried out by qualified electricians.

2. Technical Data at a Glance

Parameter Value
Power supply 230 V / 50–60 Hz
Protection class IP 20
Fuse protection (by customer) 10 A
Operating noise < 70 dB(A)
Permissible air humidity 93 % rel. humidity, non-condensing
Operating temperature −20 °C to +50 °C

3. The 5 Program Switch Functions

The program switch is located near the door system and offers five functions:

Function Meaning
OFF The system does not open automatically. On systems with a locking device, the door is mechanically locked.
AUTOMATIC The door opens automatically once an activator is triggered and closes again after the set hold-open time.
PERMANENT OPEN The door opens automatically and stays open as long as this function is active.
EXIT ONLY The door opens only via the inside activator (one-way exit) and closes after the hold-open time.
PARTIAL OPEN The door opens only up to the set partial passage width, then closes after the hold-open time.

4. Built-In Safety Systems

Safety sensors with self-test

The travel path between the opened door panels is monitored by safety sensors. If a person or object is detected, the door opens and remains open until the area is clear and the hold-open time has expired. The sensors are automatically tested before every closing movement — if the self-test fails (door no longer closes), a service technician must check the system.

Secondary closing edge protection (optional)

Required when the gap between the opened door panels and a fixed obstacle (e.g. a wall) is less than 200 mm. Two options are available: self-monitored safety sensors (the door stops and, depending on the setting, stays in place or continues slowly) or protection wings.

Force monitoring (obstacle detection)

The system detects obstacles that the safety sensors do not pick up — for example a door mat in the travel path:

  • During closing: the door reopens, then slowly approaches the obstacle after the hold-open time; this repeats until the obstacle is removed.
  • During opening: the door stops and performs up to 6 slow opening attempts; if the obstacle persists, the door closes and opens slowly on the next activation pulse.

Automatic hold-open time extension

To protect the motor from overheating during heavy traffic, the hold-open time is automatically extended and returns to the set value once the frequency drops.

EMERGENCY STOP button (optional)

Red operating element on a yellow background, located near the door. Pressing it immediately puts the door into a safe state (the door can then be moved by hand); twisting it to the right releases it and the door resumes the set program function.

Night/bank activator and power failure (optional)

The night/bank activator opens the locked door from the outside — by key or electronically (e.g. credit card / EC card). With a battery installed, the door can be opened during a power failure in the AUTOMATIC, PARTIAL OPEN and EXIT ONLY positions; in OFF position the door remains closed and locked.

5. Everyday Operating Procedures

Setting the partial opening width

  1. Close the door.
  2. Turn the program switch to PERMANENT OPEN — the door opens slowly.
  3. Once the desired width is reached, turn the switch to PARTIAL OPEN. The door stops, saves the position as the new partial opening width, and closes.

Opening the door with the night/bank switch (program switch in OFF)

  1. Push the night/bank button — the door unlocks and opens.
  2. The door closes automatically and locks again.

Commissioning after a power outage

After power returns, the control unit runs a self-test of approx. 5 seconds. The door then closes slowly and resumes the previously set program function.

Service display (optional)

div class="table-scroll-container content-optimized">
Display signal Meaning
Continuous light Load cycle interval has lapsed (e.g. after 80,000 cycles)
Flashing (every 0.5 s) Time interval has lapsed (e.g. every 6 months)
10 s continuous light + 10 s flashing Both intervals have lapsed

The intervals are set by the service technician, who also acknowledges the notification after maintenance.

6. Maintenance and Wear Parts

The door system must be tested and maintained at least once a year by a specialist; testing and approval follow the test book and must be documented, with records kept by the operator for at least 1 year. Maintenance work may only be carried out with the system de-energized.

The following wear parts must be checked at least once a year and replaced if necessary:

Wear part Note
End stops Check at every service
Guide rail Check annually; keep clean at all times
Battery pack ES200 cpl. Order no. 04000160; replacement by qualified persons only
Drive belt Check annually
Guide rollers Check annually
Caster Check annually

For cleaning, turn the program switch to OFF or PERMANENT OPEN to prevent unintended movements. Clean aluminium, glass and cover with a moist cloth and common cleaning agents — no scrubbing agents, and never let water or other liquids enter the drive unit.

7. First-Line Troubleshooting

If the door system does not operate, check these four points before calling service:

  1. Is mains voltage available?
  2. Is the EMERGENCY STOP button unlocked?
  3. Is the program switch in the correct position?
  4. Is the door blocked by objects?
Normal behaviour, not a defect: In changing weather (rain or snow showers), flying leaves or direct sunlight on reflective floors, the safety sensors may sporadically register faulty detections, and the door may take up to one minute to open. This behaviour is required by the applicable standard and exclusively serves user safety.

Conclusion

The ES 200 EASYplus combines straightforward daily operation — five program switch positions, tool-free partial-width setting — with layered safety systems such as self-testing sensors, force monitoring and optional emergency functions. Keeping the annual inspection schedule and monitoring the wear parts (end stops, guide rail, battery pack, drive belt, guide rollers, caster) ensures long-term, standards-compliant performance. The operator is covered by EC and UKCA declarations of conformity (including EN 16005, EN 13849-1 and EN 60335-2-103).
