Glass door leaves cannot be drilled like timber or metal doors — so how do you connect the slide channel of an ED 100 or ED 250 swing door operator? The answer is the glass door clamping rail (Glastürschuh): a clamp-on profile that grips the top edge of the glass leaf without any glass machining. This guide summarizes the official mounting instructions (document 059916-45532/17143, 07/2024) step by step.
1. What the glass door clamping rail is for
- Connects the slide channel of the ED 100 / ED 250 to a glass door leaf — no drilling, no glass cut-outs required
- Clamps mechanically onto the top of the glass panel
- Suitable for glass thicknesses of 10–13.5 mm
- Used in hinge-side (pulling) slide-rail installations on all-glass doors, typical for retail fronts, offices and showrooms
2. Key dimensions at a glance
| Dimension | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Glass thickness | 10–13.5 mm | permitted glass panel range for the clamping rail |
| Hinge-side offset | 148 mm | reference distance from the hinge edge when positioning the rail |
| Clearance | ≥ 5 mm | minimum gap to be observed between the clamping point and the moving slide channel |
| Clamp adjustments | 8.5 mm / 10 mm | clamping and alignment dimensions shown in the final-setting diagram |
| Tool | 3 mm hex key (Allen) | for the clamping screws |
3. Mounting in four steps
Step 1 — Position the profiles
Place the slide channel (1) and the glass door clamping rail (2) onto the top edge of the glass leaf. The clamping rail sits on the glass; the slide channel connects the rail to the operator's slide arm.
Step 2 — Fix the clamping points
Starting at the reference position 148 mm from the hinge edge, tighten the clamping screws with a 3 mm hex key. Work at both clamping points so the rail seats evenly on the glass.
Step 3 — Align at 90°
Turn both clamping elements to their final 90° positions as shown in the diagram. This squares the rail to the glass edge and locks the clamping geometry — check that the rail runs parallel to the top of the glass before final tightening.
Step 4 — Final settings and clearances
Set the final clamping dimensions (8.5 mm / 10 mm) and verify the minimum clearance of ≥ 5 mm between the clamping point and the slide channel's moving carriage. Confirm the glass thickness is within the 10–13.5 mm range before putting the door into service.
- Verify the actual glass thickness before ordering — panels outside 10–13.5 mm need a different solution.
- After mounting, run the operator's learning cycle and check that the slide block passes the clamping area without contact (the ≥ 5 mm rule).
- On fire-rated or escape-route glass doors, confirm the approved door/operator combination before installation.
