ED 100 / ED 250 Installation & Commissioning Guide

This guide walks installers through the complete mounting and commissioning workflow for the ED 100 and ED 250 swing door operators (document 059799-45532, 06/2026 edition): drilling templates and lintel depths, torque specifications, spring tension settings, double-door connections, the learning cycle, upgrade cards and the full In/E error-code diagnostics table.

Safety first. These operators are intended for interior swing doors with a door leaf weight of max. 160 kg (ED 100) or 400 kg (ED 250). Mounting must be carried out by qualified installers only; all electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician. A risk assessment of the door system is mandatory before commissioning. On fire doors, only pre-verified operator/door combinations may be used, and metallic door leaves must be earthed.

1. Arm and lintel depth compatibility

Before drilling, identify the mounting variant. The drilling template dimensions (A/B/C/D) depend on the arm type and the lintel depth (reveal depth):

Mounting variant Lintel depth range Notes
Hinge side, pulling with slide rail ±30 mm (standard) standard slide-rail set
Hinge side, pulling with slide rail CPD 30–60 mm CPD version
Hinge side, pulling with slide rail CPD 250 60–250 mm requires firmware ≥ V3.2
Opposite hinge side, pushing with slide rail 125 mm not for fire doors
Opposite hinge side, pushing with standard arm 125 mm standard arm 225 / 500
Opposite hinge side, pushing with EN 7 arm 125 mm for ED 250 at EN 7

For higher operator mounting, axle extensions of 20 / 30 / 60 / 90 mm are available — each extension shifts the drilling template dimensions accordingly (see the A/W/C/D tables in the manual).

2. Mounting the operator

  1. Separate the operator from the mounting plate.
  2. Fix the mounting plate with 12 screws according to the drilling template.
  3. Connect the 230 V mains supply (performed by an electrician).
  4. Attach the operator to the mounting plate.

3. Lever positioning — the critical step

To mount the lever in the correct position, the axle must first be brought into its zero position:

  1. Set the spring preload to approx. 10 rotations — the axle rotates to the zero position.
  2. Turn the spring preload back to 0 rotations.
  3. Push the lever onto the axle at an angle of approx. 12° to the operator (slide rail version) or approx. 90° (standard arm).
  4. Turn the lever with the operator axle approx. 10° in the door's opening direction, withdraw it, then turn it one tooth in the closing direction (several teeth for greater lintel depths).
  5. Put the lever back on the axle and tighten to 23 Nm.
  6. Screw in the lever bolt and tighten to 8–10 Nm.
Braking circuit plug: use plug position A for pulling (slide rail) mounting and position B for pushing (arm) mounting. An incorrect plug position will trigger a braking-circuit error during commissioning.

4. Spring tension settings (EN 1154)

Door leaf width 950 mm 1,100 mm 1,250 mm 1,400 mm 1,600 mm
EN class EN 3 EN 4 EN 5 EN 6 EN 7
Min. closing torque at 2° 18 Nm 26 Nm 37 Nm 54 Nm 87 Nm
Spring rotations — ED 100 14 16 — — —
Spring rotations — ED 250 — 14 18 24 24

The values are proximity values: the closing torque must be checked at 2° according to EN 1154 and corrected if necessary. For lintel depths greater than 300 mm, the min. closing torque between 88°–92° must also be checked. If the spring tension is too low, the learning cycle will be interrupted.

Closing speed with power off: it is imperative to set the closing speed on the potentiometer. If the door closes in less than 3 seconds, this triggers error message 73 (braking circuit check).

5. End stop and cladding

  • With the program switch at PERMANENTLY OPEN, push the buffer and end stop up to 5 mm to the sliding block and tighten the screws.
  • dormakaba recommends using a doorstop; with the standard arm and the CPD 250 slide rail, a doorstop is mandatory.
  • The use of a metallic hood is required for CE conformity. Fit the protective cover until it audibly snaps into place, then the axle covers and side covers.

6. Double-door (2-leaf) mounting

Assemble the two mounting plates before mounting the operators. Calculate the assembled length with the formula:

Hood length − 91 = X

Hinge size (hinge gap) Connection type
1,400–1,415 mm Connection "A"
1,416–1,475 mm Connection "B" (long connector + small intermediate piece)
from 1,476 mm Connection "C"

After assembling the mounting plates, attach the operators and check whether the cladding fits before final tightening.

7. Commissioning and the learning cycle

  1. Set the three basic parameters: AS (mounting type), rd (lintel depth), Tb (door leaf width).
  2. Make sure the motor is cold and PGS is OFF.
  3. Start the learning cycle — the door moves to the 70° position and waits for the opening width to be set manually.
  4. Move the door to the desired opening position; the operator stores the values.
  5. Due to system tolerances, after the automatic learning cycle the actual forces on the door leaf must be measured and corrected if necessary.

8. Upgrade cards — installation rules

  • The first upgrade card always goes into the container module, which must remain installed at all times.
  • On double-leaf fire doors, a fire upgrade card is required on both leaves.
  • For EVAC / smoke-ventilation functions, one Professional card per door is required.

9. Parameter quick reference

Parameter Function
So / Sc opening / closing speed
dd hold-open time (min. 5 s in Low-Energy mode)
hd operating mode: 0 = automatic, 1 = door closer mode
PG Push & Go function
Fo / Fc wind-load compensation, opening / closing direction, 20–150 N

10. Diagnostics: information and error codes

The 7-segment display reports information codes (In 01–In 98) and error codes (E 02–E 96), including CAN-bus module errors. Frequent examples:

Code Meaning Action
E 02 locking fault — operator attempts to open/close a locking device with feedback contact check locking device wiring and feedback contact
73 braking circuit check failed set closing speed on potentiometer (door must not close in < 3 s); check plug position A/B
E 13 control unit fault reload valid firmware; if it fails, replace the control unit
E 96 TMS communication to ED connection board CAN faulty check TMS wiring, set parameter C1, check CAN termination, perform CAN Master reset (Cr=1)
Radar sensor errors CAN communication between radar sensor and ED connection board interrupted check CAN connection cables; reset the operator power supply
