Introduction

This document provides detailed installation instructions for the Dorma ED 100 and ED 250 automatic swing door operators. Correct installation is crucial for the safety and longevity of the door system.

Required Tools & Initial Specs

Before beginning the installation, ensure you have the necessary tools, including:

  • Hex keys: 2.5 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm
  • Wrenches: SW 13 mm
  • Screwdrivers
  • Torque wrench (capable of 35 Nm)

1. Preparation & Dismounting

Before mounting the base plate, prepare the operator unit:

  1. Remove the two transport safety screws and the protective cardboard.
Note: These screws are not self-locking and must not be used to fix the arm later.
  2. Relax the 8 fixing screws on the unit.
  3. Remove the 230 V plug.
  4. Remove the operator from the mounting plate. Use a screwdriver to lever the operator off the base plate if necessary.
Tip: Put a wooden block or similar object below the operator to avoid loosening the connection unit.

2. Mounting the Base Plate

  1. Fix the mounting plate with 12 screws through the provided holes.
  2. Use adequate dowels and screws in accordance with the prevailing substructure (wall material) to secure the mounting plate firmly.
  3. Screw the provided retaining pin into one of the two tapped holes.

3. Electrical Connection

Danger: Work on electrical equipment (230 V power supply) may only be performed by properly qualified staff (electricians).
  1. Connect the 230 V power supply (L1, N).
  2. Connect the earthing (grounding) cable. Form a loop at the end of the cable.
  3. Remove the protective foil from the heat conductive pads at the bottom of the power supply unit.

Important: The heat conductive pads must remain clean to ensure proper heat dissipation.

4. Mounting the Operator

  1. Attach the operator to the bolts on the base plate.
  2. Lay the connection cables carefully through the housing.
  3. Press against the operator until you hear it lock in position.
  4. Screw down the 8 screws thoroughly.
  5. Plug in the mains connection.
  6. Drive the axle extension into the arm. Turn the square end so that its mounting position corresponds to the diagram instructions.

5. Arm Installation

Variant A: Slide Channel (Hinge Side)

  1. Assemble Slide Shoe: Insert the pivot pin (12.5 mm or 25 mm) in the slide shoe and secure with a lock washer. Use the short pin for doors without a rebate.
  2. Position Components: Place the Slide channel (1), End stop (2), Buffer (3), Slide shoe (4), and Fixing (5) inside the slide channel.
  3. Fix Channel: Screw down the fixings. Fix the slide channel to the door/frame with 2 screws through the provided holes.
  4. Mount Cover: Fix the end caps onto the spacers and insert both into the cover. Ensure correct mounting position. Align so end caps are flush with the cover.
  5. Secure Arm: Use a high torque (35 Nm) to fix the arm to the operator axle.

Variant B: Standard Arm (Opposite Hinge Side)

  1. Fix the adjustment screw (A) with 2 screws through the provided holes.
  2. Use a high torque (35 Nm) to fix the arm (B) to the operator axle.
Critical: Only use the provided self-locking screw for the arm. If relaxed during maintenance, it must be replaced by a new self-locking screw.

Adjustment of Arm Geometry

The adjustment screw must be positioned at right angles (90°) to the door leaf.

  • Relax the counter nut at the adjustment screw.
  • Relax or tighten the adjustment screw so that it is at right angles to the door leaf when the arm is clipped together.
  • Press the ball head of the adjustment screw into the provided hole inside the arm.
  • Secure with the hexagon nut.

6. Adjustment of Braking Circuit

  • Ensure the power supply is switched off!
  • Insert the connector according to the mounting type:
    • (A) = Mounting with slide channel
    • (B) = Mounting with arm
Warning: The brake circuit will not work if the connector is improperly connected. The door might close at dangerously high speeds.

7. Adjustment of Spring Force

The system checks the spring adjustment during the learning cycle. If insufficiently tensioned, the cycle will be interrupted.

  • The spring has to be pre-tensioned with at least 10 revolutions.
  • A learning cycle must be performed whenever the spring is readjusted.

Spring Tension Table (Approximate Values)

Required Revolutions for Adjustment Screw
Door Width (mm) EN Class Min. Closing Torque (2°) ED 100 Revs ED 250 Revs
850 EN 2 13 Nm 10 -
950 EN 3 18 Nm 14 -
1,100 EN 4 26 Nm 16 14
1,250 EN 5 37 Nm - 18
1,400 EN 6 54 Nm - 24

Note: Values are approximate. Check closing torque at 2° according to EN 1154. For lintel depths > 300mm, check torque between 88° - 92°.

8. Adjustment of Closing Speed

The closing speed must be adjusted in any case. If the door requires less than 3 seconds to close, Error Message 73 (braking circuit test) will be emitted.
