19. Troubleshooting

Use the table below to identify common faults, their possible reasons, and recommended remedies.

Fault Possible Reason Remedies/Explanations
The door does not open
The motor does not start
Control switch is set to OFF Change the setting of the control switch.
Electrical power is missing Check the electrical power switch. Check incoming power.
Activation unit does not function Strap impulse inputs.
Presence detection is activated Check that there are no objects in the detection zone.
KILL activated Deactivate KILL.
Potentiometer SPTE not turned to 0° Turn SPTE to 0°.
Mechanical lock is locked Unlock the lock.
Electric striking plate is binding Select lock release.
Adjust striking: Turn potentiometer SPTE until the door-stop hits the stop-block. Put the door in required open position. Tighten the arm system. Turn SPTE to 0°.
The motor starts Something jammed beneath the door Remove object.
The door does not close Control switch is set to HOLD Change the setting of the ON/OFF/HOLD open switch.
Presence impulse is activated Remove objects in the detection zone.
Arm system has come loose Something jammed beneath the door, or unknown spring pre-tension Remove object. Follow these steps to reset:
  1. Turn up the potentiometer SPTE until it is possible to loosen the door arm stop.
  2. Remove the door stop and the arm system.
  3. Unplug the electrical power and let spring close.
  4. Unplug the motor plug.
  5. Mount the drive arm from the arm system and find the 0 pre-tension by moving back and forth.
  6. Loosen the arm.
  7. Connect the motor plug.
  8. Turn the SPTE pot to 90° (360° pretension) or 180° (720° pretension) etc.
  9. Connect the electrical power. The operator will now tension the spring to required pretension.
  10. Mount the door stop against the closing stop block.
  11. Turn down SPTE to 0º - operator is now factory set.
  12. Turn to section 13 to adjust open stop position.
Note: Adjusting the SPTE before power up increases the SPTE range 4 times (i.e., 180° on the SPTE will tension the spring 2 turns/720°). Adjusting to zero during power on will reset range of SPTE.

19.1 Error Indication

  • During normal operation the ERROR LED on the control unit is illuminated.
  • An extinguished LED indicates that there is no electrical power.
  • A flashing light on the LED indicates that the operator is out of function (see table below).
  • An audible warning signal can be achieved by using the accessory board AIU. It is connected to the 24 VDC and plugged into the EXU-SA relay output terminal.
LED Flash Frequency Reason Remedy
One 0.3s flash, 10s pause Kill impulse is active Make a kill reset, reset kill switch or reset fire alarm.
One 0.3s flash, 2s pause +24 V DC external error Check for short circuit.
Two 0.3s flashes, pause Sensor monitoring error Check for broken monitored sensor.
Three 0.3s flashes, pause Battery defective Replace battery. If Battery Monitoring DIP is ON, then probably a reset of this is needed (after changed batteries), see section 5.5.5.
Four 0.3s flashes, pause Control unit defective (Encoder error) Check the encoder cable. Replace control unit.
Open and close the door manually and thereafter check the automatic function. If the operator is still out of function replace the drive unit.
Five 0.3s flashes, pause Locking device defective Check for short circuit in the locking device. Replace locking device.
Six 0.3s flashes, pause EXU-SI board defective Replace EXU-SI board.
Seven 0.3s flashes, pause Sync cable not connected or defective (double door only) / Secondary control unit defective Connect the sync cable. Replace the sync cable. Check the flash frequency on the secondary LED and take necessary measures in accordance with this table.
Eight 0.3s flashes, pause Motor overheated Wait for the motor to cool down.
Nine 0.3s flashes, pause Blocked door and constant impulse Toggle impulse.
Ten 0.3s flashes, pause Settings have been made that requires a new learn or the learn has failed Check set up. Make a new learn.
Eleven 0.3s flashes, pause Arm setting is Concealed (In-swing) and break-out switch is open or not connected Change arm setting or see the manual for OHC, if such is installed.

20. Service / Maintenance

Regular inspections shall be made according to national regulations and product documentation by an ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems-trained and qualified technician. The number of service occasions should be in accordance with national requirements and product documentation. This is especially important when the installation concerns a fire-approved door or a door with an emergency opening function.

As with all other technical products, an automatic door needs maintenance and service. It is essential to know the importance of maintenance to have a reliable and safe product. Service and adjustments will ensure a safe and proper operation of an automatic door unit.

The “Service Log Book” shall be used together with the “Site Acceptance Test and Risk Assessment” document (PRA-0007) provided. Keep both documents available for maintenance and service records.

Preventive Maintenance Schedule

The table below shows the recommended interval in months, when to replace parts during preventive maintenance.

Recommended Replacement Intervals (Months)
