Which Operator Covers Are Required?

The covers are packed separately from the operator system, ensuring easy selection of the specifically required cover for your installation.

dormakaba provides high-quality covers for both single and double systems. All covers are designed for on-site mounting and are compatible with both the ED 100 and ED 250 versions. Crafted from aluminium, these covers can also be coated to meet specific design requirements.

ED BASIC (01) and ED BASIC RM (02) Cover

The operator cover is available in two distinct versions:

  • Basic: Standard operator cover.
  • Basic RM: Integrated with smoke detection control.

One cover serves to encase one ED operator and is supplied with end caps. For 2-leaf systems, two "Basic" standard operator covers are required.

Note: Minimum measurements apply for units with integrated emergency power supply (battery pack).

Standard Specifications

ED BASIC: 685 mm
ED BASIC RM: 735 mm
ED Basic + ED UPS: 915 mm

ED VARIO and ED VARIO RM (04) Extensions

Designed to supplement the Basic operator cover, the Vario extension is also available in two versions:

  • Vario: Standard extension.
  • Vario RM: Extension with integrated smoke detection control.

Both versions are available in two lengths. The Vario extension functions as an optical extension for a single-leaf system or as a connecting piece for double-leaf systems. These extensions can be shortened on-site as needed. Connecting pieces for the Basic cover are included in the delivery scope.

Vario Specifications

ED VARIO 2200: 130 (260*) – 830 mm
ED VARIO 3200: 130 (260*) – 1.830 mm
ED VARIO 2200 RM: 240 (370*) – 830 mm
ED VARIO 3200 RM: 240 (370*) – 1.830 mm

Customised ED Professional (05) Cover

The Professional cover offers a sleek, continuous, and seamless encasing solution for both single-leaf and double-leaf door systems. Each cover is custom-made according to your specific required measurements.

Max Length: 3,000 mm (custom-made)

Integrated ED UPS Emergency Power Supply (25)

An integrated emergency power supply (battery pack) can be added to the ED 100/250 system. This ensures reliable operator functionality even during power failures.

Installation

  • 1-leaf systems: Installed in direction of the main closing edge using a mounting kit.
  • 2-leaf systems: Installed centered under the Vario cover or inside the Professional cover.
Important Note: Due to design constraints, the integrated emergency power supply cannot function simultaneously with the integrated mechanical door coordinator (ED ESR set). An external door coordinator is recommended as an alternative.

Battery Technology

The battery pack utilizes Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4) technology, offering:

  • High capacity and energy density.
  • Significantly higher safety levels with virtually eliminated risk of ignition (compared to Li-Po).
  • Long service life.
  • No conflict minerals (e.g., cobalt).

Performance

  • 1-leaf systems: Up to approx. 600 cycles.
  • 2-leaf systems: Up to approx. 300 cycles.

(Cycles depend on application and connected consumers. The system remains in standby 24/7 for immediate switchover.)

Integrated RM-ED Smoke Detector

The ED BASIC RM and ED VARIO RM covers come with an integrated RM-ED smoke detector. This system can be supplemented with RM-N ceiling smoke detectors.

Functionality

In the event of fire detection:

  1. Automatic opening is deactivated.
  2. The operator closes the door using the integrated spring.
  3. Automatic opening is disabled until reset.

The system can also be triggered manually via an optional HT manual release pushbutton or by manually forcing the door closed. To reactivate, the door must be opened by hand.

Fire Protection Requirement: To use smoke detectors, the operator must be supplemented with the Upgrade Card Fire Protection.

Regulations & Safety

  • Ceiling Clearance: If the distance from door opening to ceiling exceeds 1m, an additional ceiling smoke detector is required alongside the RM-ED.
  • DIN EN 1158: On fire and smoke doors, an ESR door coordinator must be used.
  • Escape Routes: An additional MK 396 or MK 397 carry bar must be used on escape route doors.
