The Radar Sensor M A01 is the dedicated activation sensor for the ED 100 and ED 250 swing door operators: it detects approaching people, lets the control unit calculate the ideal opening time, and — thanks to targeted cross-traffic detection — keeps the door closed when people merely walk past. This guide condenses the official quick guide (060616-45532, 06/2024): mounting positions, DIP switches, CAN wiring, commissioning parameters and the complete LED error-code table.

Compliance: Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, EMC 2014/30/EU, Radio Equipment 2014/53/EU, RoHS 2011/65/EU; EN 16005:2013, EN 300 440, EN 301 489-1/-3, EN 62368-1 — plus UKCA for the UK market.
2. Mounting positions and heights
| # | Parameter | Value |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Installation height from the floor | 2.0–4.0 m |
| 2 | Height above the door leaf upper edge (central mounting, recommended) | 0.2–0.5 m |
| 3 | Recommended positions | max. 0.8 m displacement from center permitted; 1-leaf: exactly centered above the leaf; 2-leaf: exactly centered above both leaves |
| 4 | Optional positions | mounting at operator height above the hinges is permitted (preferably on the active leaf for 2-leaf doors) — note: on 2-leaf doors this increasingly leads to false alarms |
3. DIP switch settings (before wall mounting)
Set the DIP switches before mounting the sensor on the wall, and observe ESD protective measures. If the DIP positions are changed later, a CAN reset (Cr = 1) is mandatory.
| DIP | ON | OFF |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | outside detector | inside detector |
| 2 | opposite side to the hinge | hinge side |
| 3 | option | option |
| 4 | CAN terminating resistor active — set on the last participant in the bus series | terminating resistor inactive |
4. Wiring and tilt angle
Connection terminals (color code): white = +24 V DC · green = CAN-H · yellow = CAN-L · brown = GND.
| Mounting height | 2.0 m | 2.5 m | 3.0 m | 3.5 m | 4.0 m |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Recommended tilt angle (15° steps) | 30° | 30° | 45° | 45° | 45° |
For intermediate heights, use the tilt angle of the next higher or lower mounting height. In special cases (e.g. a wall inside the detection area) the angle may be adjusted. On 2-leaf doors, the ED connection board CAN goes into the active leaf operator.
5. Commissioning and parameters
Parameters are set via the handheld device ("Special functions" menu) or the ED's user interface. The CAN reset parameter is only available on the ED's user interface.
Cr = 1) whenever: initial commissioning after all devices are connected · a device was added to the bus · a device was replaced · DIP switches were adjusted · the control unit no longer recognizes the CAN devices. The parameter resets itself to 0 afterwards. Note: with at least one M A01 connected, the CAN reset automatically sets the hold-open time dd to "0" (changeable afterwards). After a factory reset of the ED, all parameters — including C1 and the sensor parameters — must be set again.
| Parameter | Range | Default | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cross-traffic mode inside / outside (MA01 IM QV / AM QV) | 0–3 | 0 | 0 = hide cross-traffic left & right · 1 = capture right · 2 = capture left · 3 = capture both sides |
| Mounting height inside / outside (Ih / Ah) | 20–40 | 25 | sensor mounting height in 100 mm increments |
| Door opening time inside / outside (IT / AT) | 0–6 | 3 | 0 = very early … 6 = very late; smaller values weaken cross-traffic suppression — the door opens more sensitively |
| So (opening speed) | — | — | affects the general opening time: slower opening = door opens sooner; faster = opens later |
6. Troubleshooting: the 7 LED error codes
The RGB LED on the ED connection board CAN indicates errors by its number of flashes; the highest-priority message is shown. Process data between the ED control unit and the radar sensor is not exchanged while an error is active.
| No. | Error | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | TMS communication error | communication between ED control unit and ED connection board CAN interrupted | check C1 parameter setting and the connection cable; if applicable reset the operator power supply |
| 2 | CAN initialization error | sensor address assignment failed — expected responses not received | check CAN cable and bus termination (DIP 4 = ON on the last participant); perform CAN reset |
| 3 | Unknown CAN bus participant | unknown devices detected or max. number of participants exceeded | check connected devices, remove incorrect ones from the bus; execute CAN reset |
| 4 | Device assignment error | device positions appear twice in the assignment | check DIP switch settings on the radar sensors; execute CAN reset |
| 5 | Missing device error | a trained radar sensor is no longer available after switch-on | check CAN cable and the device; if applicable reset the operator power supply |
| 6 | CAN communication error | communication between radar sensor and ED connection board CAN interrupted | check CAN cable; if applicable reset the operator power supply |
| 7 | Radar sensor error | sensor sends an emergency message due to an internal error | reset the ED operator power supply |
